Doon Junior Church

Freedom Church has been actively involved in the KW region for decades. Our first permanent church building was located in the Doon Village area of Kitchener and served the small congregation well into the 1980s. Steady growth required more space and in 1988 the church took a bold step and purchased a ten acre horse farm on Bleams Road in Southwest Kitchener. At the time we really were out in the country. How times have changed. Freedom now enjoys being part of the Williamsburg community where thousands of new families who weren’t here just a few years ago live, work, go to school and play.

The main building at Freedom is a connecting and training place for children, youth and adults on Sundays and on other days of the week. The original farmhouse has been converted into the Freedom Community Centre from where a variety of programs and services are offered for our community neighbours as well as our church family. Some of these include a school of music, a sewing school, summer camps, a soccer league and sports clinics for kids. The sports fields are busy most days from spring through fall with community groups playing soccer, beach volleyball and other activities. We want to be known as a welcoming place where people can feel loved, accepted and safe.

Plans for maximizing our facilities are underway to enable us to accommodate future growth. The neighbourhood is continuing to expand all around us and we want to be ready to respond to increased opportunities to serve. As a Christian church family, Freedom is committed to following Jesus’ example and teachings through practical acts of love for our neighbours. We want people of all ages to be impacted and transformed by God’s love every day. While we celebrate what we have experienced to this point we are excited about the future that God has in store for Freedom beginning now.
