Weekly Devotional (September 25)

Transformed - Decidedly Different.  As followers of Christ we are called to make a difference in our everyday world. Most often that means right in our own community and then sometimes it means making a difference in other parts of the world.

This Sunday, we have Hector and Ruth Aragon with us. They are missionaries to Guatemala where they have been actively involved in lighting up their world through evangelism and administration with ChildCARE Plus since January 1997. This ministry currently partners with 17 schools in Guatemala with each school being linked to a local church. They are providing education for children and youth for all grades through to technical studies training for graduates. The Aragons host many short term missions teams who get involved in gospel ministry, complete building projects and provide medical services to the communities. Aragons are truly people living ‘decidedly different’ lives in a country of extreme poverty. One of the cities that they work in is LaTinta, the place Miss Margaret and the children here at Freedom have been raising money for. We have the privilege of helping people like Hector and Ruth continue to help people in Guatemala by supporting them financially, prayerfully and practically.

Freedom's approach to helping people both here and around the world makes us decidedly different. We see others as Jesus sees them, we love them as Jesus loves them and we reach out to them as the hands and feet of Jesus. Sometimes it’s hard to know how to respond to those in need, both physical and spiritual needs. However, an evidence of our transformed life is that we do respond. We all have the opportunity to ask the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom and discernment in every situation that we encounter and then respond as He directs us.

Over the next few days read James 2 in preparation for Hector’s message on Sunday and as you do ask the Holy Spirit to direct you in how you can respond to the need in Guatemala.

See you on Sunday!
