“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10
Pastor Isaac reminded us on Sunday morning that there are many ways to serve in ministry and invited everyone to find out more. I wanted to follow up and tell you why serving matters so much.
It’s part of our mandate as Christ-followers. 1 Peter 4 makes it clear that whatever we’ve been given, we’re to serve others with it. This is actually a way to show God’s grace. What an incredible opportunity and responsibility.
It connects us. In a world that is increasingly isolating and lonely, the Lord has already built into His Church a way to get connected and stay connected for growth, care, and maturity. Serving puts us in proximity to others and tethers us to the body of Christ, even when we’re prone toward individualism in our Canadian culture.
It challenges us. Serving helps to ensure that we don’t stagnate in our faith. When we’re intentionally rubbing shoulders with other believers, working together for a Kingdom that isn’t our own, it sharpens us. I’ve had the most interesting conversations, received the best insights, and been corrected in my thinking or behaviours most when I am serving.
Wherever it is, whatever gift you’ve been given, hear the call to get active as a faithful steward of God’s grace in its various forms. Let the email nudge you to prayerfully consider how you can serve. And, encourage those around you by calling out the gifts you see in their lives.
Faithfully stewarding with you!
