Choose Your Own Adventure (engaging with Genesis 1)

If you were with us on Sunday morning (and not serving in Kids Church - if you were, thank you!), you know that I gave you a “choose your own adventure” response to the sermon. I’d love for you to interact a little more with Genesis 1 this week. Here again are my suggestions.

ONE

Read through Genesis 1 very slowly at least three times, preferably out loud. Before you start, ask the Holy Spirit to speak through His Word. Pay attention to what stands out to you. And, if possible, journal your thoughts.

This is inspired by Lectio Divina ("divine reading"), an ancient, four-step meditative prayer method using Scripture - slowly reading, reflecting, responding, and resting in God’s Word. (Google it if you want to learn more!)

TWO

Research one question that you have about Genesis. Maybe it’s about “young earth” creation, maybe it’s about the dinosaurs. Whatever you’ve wondered about, take some time to look it up and learn more.

If you need some inspiration, here is the full interview of Wesley Huff on “The Diary of A CEO” (we watched a clip of this on Sunday). It’s not directly about questions in Genesis, but it will hopefully get you excited to learn more and set your YouTube algorithm on the right course. Let me know if you need help finding resources for the question that you’re curious about.

THREE

Read through Genesis 1, or listen to it on the audio Bible. Create something that reflects the narrative - a song, a poem, a painting, a drawing, or any other medium that you like. I would love to see your work if you’re willing to share.

Enjoy your long pause in Genesis this week!
